A trip on the river

Amsterdam is a harbour, but since the construction of Centraal Station in the end of the XIXe century, we can easily miss the feeling of the water in the inner city. This little trip will be perfect for boat fans.

Main activity : Cross the river on a ferry
IJplein-veer
more info : www.gvb.nl
Bike to Centraal Station. Cross the station under it, and go slightly on the left to find out the piers. Every 15mn a ferry is leaving for the IJplein. It is a nice 5 mn trip on the water free of charge. Enough for the fun, not too long to get a cold !

Lunch break : Café-restaurant Wilhemina dock
Navigator : Noordwal 1, Amsterdam
more info : www.wilhelmina-dok.nl
Tel : 020-632 37 01, check if there is not a special event.

Once out of the ferry, bike around 300 meters along the dike-top to get to the orange building when you can have a nice lunch on a protected terrace. Big carrier boats are creating waves and can sometimes pass by a few meters only !
